14 April – Why hello there
I have been quite the lax blogger of late – but with excellent reason. My friend came to London to celebrate her birthday, and coming soon to an IP address near you will be a special edition of BGtL, Heather Comes to London. Till then…
Whether I want to or not, I bear some striking similarities to the beloved heroines Elizabeth Bennett and Bridget Jones* ^. This was brought home yesterday evening, when Heather and I were walking, a bit past rush-hour accross London Bridge to Southwark and onwards to The Eye. It was a lovely day – clearish, brisk and dry. I said something like “Yes, it’s the perfect time of day, no rain…” The vibrations from the n had not yet stilled when a double-decker splashed an ocean-sized puddle of blechy, icy street “water” all over me. And only me. I think that’s all I really need to say.
*I’m including EB as, she was the inspiration of BJ and frankly, the mixture of the two is a bit more me – a bit exactly more me – than taking them separately.
^I feel, for the sake of transparency, I am a real world BJ – thus no Colin Firth^^/Hugh Grant subplot. Damn.
^^mmmhm. sigh.
it really only happened because you said rain.
